Who is coaching TRI 202?

TRI 202 was created by Dallas Athletes & Dallas Sports University founder and president, Tom Ryan. Tom was named back-to-back “Triathlon Coach of the Year” by Competitor Magazine. He is a four-time Ironman finisher, 20-year triathlete with multiple age group wins at regional and national races. Tom coaches all TRI 202 programs. Along with Coach Tom, all TRI 202 athletes are assisted by multiple assistants.

Do I need to meet any requirements to enter TRI 202?

All TRI 202 athletes MUST meet the following:

  • Swim for a minimum of 15-minutes without stopping or 1000 yards
  • Cycle for 90 minutes at a minimum average speed of 15 mph
  • Run for 4.5 miles or 35 minutes
  • All TRI 202 athletes MUST have a road bike
  • NO mountain bikes, sorry

OK, how much is the program?

TRI 202 offers you TWO training options!

Option One, TRI 202, Semi-Custom Training (T2SCT):
T2SCT is perfect for the multisport athlete who wants to advance from a sprint to an Olympic distance event. The athlete is looking to improve triathlon performance, rest, proper nutrition, endurance and performance training. T2SCT includes:

  • Weekly semi-custom training schedule
  • Race specific schedule
  • Pre and post race group review for “A & B” races
  • One, nutrition food journal review with dietitian, Sara Sims
  • Race and performance nutrition
  • Coached, group workouts
  • Strength Training (six-weeks) ($149 value - 0ptional for T2SCT athletes)
    • May 10-June 18
  • Endurance Training:
    • Begins May 5 for DT (10-weeks)
    • Begins June 9 for LA and TXM (14-weeks)

Cost of T2SCT:
DSU Members - $299 ($399 with optional Strength Training)
Non-DSU members - $349 ($449 w/opinional Strength Training)
SAVE $50 by enrolling in both T2SCT and Strength Training! (DSU and non-DSU members)

Option Two, TRI 202 Complete-Custom Training (T2CCT):
T2CCT is for the athlete interested in peak performance. Weekly workouts are created from scratch for the individual designed specifically for triathlons. T2CCT is perfect for an athlete looking to reach their pr, learn the intricacies of how their body works in conjunction with strength training, rest, proper nutrition, endurance and performance training. T2CCT includes:

  • Weekly custom training schedule w/two schedule adjustments per week
  • Heart rate or perceived exertion specific
  • On-line training log ($100 value)
  • Race specific schedule
  • Pre and post race review for all “A, B, & C” races either phone, or face-to-face
  • Three, weekly athlete initiated phone calls, if needed
  • One, nutrition food journal review with dietitian, Sara Sims
  • Coached, group workouts
  • Strength Training (six-weeks) ($149 value - required for T2CCT athletes)
    • May 10-June 18
  • Endurance Training:
    • Begins May 5 for DT (10-weeks)
    • Begins June 9 for LA

Cost of T2CCT:
DSU members - $599 (includes Strength Training [$149] and on-line training log [$100])
Non-DSU members - $799 (includes Strength Training [$149] and on-line training log [$100])

Note: T2CCT athletes will be required to have their VO2 Max tested to measure cardio-respiratory fitness and establish heart rate training zones. Testing done at Baylor Tom Landry Fitness Center at a cost of $90 to the athlete. If athlete has had a VO2 Max in the past 12-months, one will not be required.

Does that include my entry fee for the race?

Your TRI 202 investment does not include entry fee into any race. Entry fee is the responsibility of the athlete.

If I signed up online do I need to come to a registration/orientation meeting?

The orientation is HIGHLY recommended. If you want to meet with Tom and ask questions, then registration/orientation is a GREAT time to have one-on-time.

I @#$! in the swim! What do I do?

Once you register, you will be given multiple options for your swim evaluation.
We need you to attend ONE evaluation in order to coordinate and recommend swim options.

What else do I get besides the training?

The best part of the programs is the Group Training Dynamic.
Nothing beats training with people who have similar goals and attitudes.

It’s tough for me to train after work, when are the workouts?

You will find workout options Monday-Sunday. Times vary based on the day of the week, but most days have early (5:30 a.m.) sessions and some evening sessions depending on sunlight.

What if I can’t make all the workouts?

You are not expected to make all of the workouts! Every Friday you will receive an e-mail containing the upcoming weeks workouts. Think of it as a dinner menu. Look at your workouts and compare them to the workout sessions. Then fit the workouts into your schedule. You can do one workout per week with the group or five. It is up to you.

Where do most of the workouts take place?

The majority of the workouts take place in Coppell, Flower Mound, Grapevine, Lewisville, Valley Ranch, Las Colinas, Carrollton and roads near and around DFW airport.

What do I need to get started?

First, sign-up and tell three friends you’re doing a triathlon! You will also need running shoes, swimsuit, and goggles. Oh, and KICK #$% attitude! Interested? Contact tom@dallassportsuniversity.com
