Strength Training
Inside Strength Training

Functional strength training plays an important role in enhancing performance and injury prevention and is often the missing link in the training program for swimmers, bikers, and runners. Become long and strong through functional strength training that incorporates total body strength and flexibility, with an emphasis on building a core strength base. The program is conducted by Amy Goddard, PT, CSCS and her staff at Goddard Orthopedic and Sports Therapy. This program is a “must” for all triathletes!
Please contact Amy Goddard’s office directly to reserve a spot in the upcoming 8-week session. Each athlete must reserve their spot and complete an injury profile before participating in FST. The first session will include a review of your injury history as well as an orientation to FST.

LOOKING FOR MORE?
TRI FIT
• Do you know your weakest link?
• Are you putting fitness on dysfunction?
• Are you at risk for injury?
• Are you at a peak or a plateau?
• Are you injured and wanting to return to sport?
The TRI FIT Evaluation uses a Functional Movement Screen (FMS), Injury Profile, and Musculoskeletal Screen to find your Injury Risk Profile. This helps us identify asymmetries in your posture, flexibility, strength, balance, and power that may predispose you to injury. We use the results of this Evaluation to guide you into the best possible solution. For example, if we identify some problem areas for you, we may suggest one or two follow-up visits so that we can prescribe corrective exercises aimed at correcting any asymmetries or imbalances identified during the Evaluation. This, then, becomes your “preventative maintenance” program. Or, if you have a current injury, we may triage you to the best medical professional who can address your symptoms. It’s all in the name of injury prevention - swimming, biking and running better…longer.
Initial Evaluation:
• Functional Movement Screen
• Injury Profile
• Musculoskeletal Screen
Normally $150, offered to DSU members for $85
Please contact Amy Goddard’s office directly and ask to be scheduled for the Tri Fit Evaluation and ask to schedule with Amy. The evaluation takes 45 minutes.

Tom Ryan’s two cents on Strength Training
- An extremely high percentage of injuries occur due to muscle imbalance & weakness
- The majority of athletes (weekend or otherwise) do not have the overall body strength to handle greater velocity or training workloads. Therefore, they get injured!
- When an athlete hears the words, “strength training” they ask “What do I do?”
- There is ZERO downside to a complete strength training program done correctly. I would wager over 90% of all developing athletes integrate a strength training routine into their training!
- I take Amy’s class. Every class I am served a big serving of “humble pie.”
- All of my athletes are required to take Amy’s program for a minimum of six-weeks!
